The food arrived quietly, one plate at a time, like characters entering a scene from a novel whose plot was still unwritten. No fanfare. Just presence. The fried chicken was the first to draw the eye—golden, jagged, unapologetically crisp. It sat next to its quieter sibling, the poached chicken, pale and almost translucent, like something remembered rather than fully present. Coriander leaves were scattered across both like small, deliberate thoughts. I picked up a piece of the fried chicken and bit into it. The flavour was there—honest, familiar—but the coating was thick, almost too thick, like armour trying too hard to protect what didn’t need protecting. It made me think of people like that. People who overcompensate. Beside it, the kangkong in sambal was vibrant, alive with colour and spice. It tasted like a memory of heat—brief, sharp, and strangely comforting. The fish cakes were crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, like secrets wrapped in breadcrumbs. I liked them more than I expected. The egg omelette, flat and golden, reminded me of breakfasts I used to have before the world got complicated. Each dish came with its own dip—dark soy with sliced green chillies, bright orange chili, and a sweet-sour red sauce that lingered a little too long on the tongue. They sat in square dishes like punctuation marks, giving each bite its own ending. The rice was shaped into a gentle mound, holding its form quietly. It wasn’t trying to impress. It just wanted to be rice. The clear soup beside it was humble, almost monastic, the kind of broth you drink slowly when you need to reset something inside yourself. The whole meal didn’t take long. The service was efficient, as if the waitstaff already knew what you were going to order before you did. We didn’t talk much. Just ate. Sometimes, that’s enough. And despite the small flaw in the chicken, everything felt balanced in a way that didn’t need explaining. Just like life on a good day—not perfect, but quietly satisfying.

Not so Amazing Chicken Rice Offering I went into this place for lunch with a group of friends. There were 8 of us. Everyone ordered chicken rice. The option for chicken rice was to opt in if you wanted breast meat. Some of us did and some didn’t, as they wanted thigh meat. There was no thigh meat option offered and all of us received only breast meat. When we were leaving the restaurant we saw they were saving all the thigh meat. As such, my rating of the food was very low, given chicken rice is the core business. However, the price was a very reasonable $5.50 for a serviced restaurant. Service was not automatic. We were served dishes without cutlery. They also got some of the orders wrong, but they rectified the errors. The place had a reasonable number of customers at lunch and does have a decent ambience, matching a decent eating house. Overall, I need to figure out if they will ever sell thigh meat for their chicken rice or not. Cos whether I go back or not depends on this.

$33 for 2 pax. we ordered 1 roasted chicken rice ($5.50), 1 white chicken rice, 1 curry chap chye, and 1 cai bo omelette. not really amazed at the chicken itself. the meat is so so only. the rice has a little fragrant but nothing superb. the omelette is fluffy and thick! paired with their sweet chilli, it was tasty. the chap chye has sweet and creamy coconut curry, but i find the veggies inside thick and tough and a little bitter. nice staff, very attentive. overall not bad to eat the sides but nothing special.

Very reasonably priced for the quality and location. Although the chicken is decent and not too dry, there is nothing to shout about. The best part is the prices are near-impossible to beat for a restaurant in a mall along orchard road. Go for the thigh option as it is much better and only costs a dollar more. Seafood tomyum and basil wings are not bad, but not as value-for-money compared to the chicken rice. Iced rose thai milk tea is good and tastes like a combination of milk tea and bandung.

Service was 5 stars!! Our first plate of chicken was quite undercooked and they were very nice about it and offered to replace the dish for us. The flavor of the soup and rice was really nice, as well as the thai tea, and prices were quite cheap as well!! The chicken rice comes with a soup but you just have to ask for it🍴👍
