CYBERSWORDFISH V2.0: Reimagining E-Waste Through Art

What becomes of the vast amount of electronic waste we leave behind? Artist Yang Derong confronts this pertinent question with his captivating new sculpture, CYBERSWORDFISH V2.0: From Myth to Megabytes. Inspired by the ancient Singaporean legend of Singapura Dilanggar Todak, or the “Attack of the Swordfish,” Derong reimagines these historical invaders as formidable cyberpunk creatures, offering a striking commentary on our digital era.
This remarkable artwork is meticulously forged from the very remnants of our technological consumption. Cracked screens, frayed wires, and salvaged digital components are painstakingly reassembled to form these imposing figures. The sculpture serves as a powerful visual metaphor, confronting viewers with the sheer volume of digital debris left in the wake of relentless technological turnover and our ever-increasing demand for new devices.
Experience this unique fusion of historical narrative and contemporary concern at the Singapore Night Festival. CYBERSWORDFISH V2.0 will be on display from August 22nd to September 6th, located at the Level 1 Canopy Plaza. This installation is a must-see for anyone interested in art, technology, and environmental sustainability, challenging us to reflect on our digital footprint.
